CONTRIBUTING SPOTS FOR ISSUE 7 ARE OPEN.

HERE'S HOW TO Get your dream story published in SIX steps:

#1

Hey stranger! We’d like to know a little bit about you. Let us know your age, pronouns, name, location - and anything else to help us feel like your friend.

You must be nineteen or under to submit a pitch.

#2

Now the idea - what are you passionate about? This issue, our theme is “subculture”: we want to hear about your counterculture, your underground, your clique -- your community, as told by you. Let us into your world! Show us the esoteric, the unknown.

Consider the following questions as you brainstorm:

questions-1.jpg

Your piece must somehow relate to the theme. Brainstorm until you feel ready for us to ooooh and aaaah over your pitch, but be mindful of time: the pitch deadline is March 28th, 2018.

So, your idea is complete! But who do you email? Take a look at what each section envelops.

ART-

The art section highlights pieces created by contributors in each issue’s Featured Art section. This is where you can let your talents shine, in any media you wish (as long as it relates to the theme). It also houses commentary on the art world- contemporary and days past. Other pieces that do not fit in Featured Art should focus on items such as: art processes, the culture that surrounds art and creators, art history, relevant galleries and exhibitions, and how art relates to teens on a personal and global level.
Formats accepted: illustrations, paintings, photography, digital media, small series, poetry, essays, reviews
Do not send finalized pieces. All contributing work must start as a pitch.

FASHION-

The fashion section features events, timelines, and analyses in the high fashion and fast fashion industries. The section typically includes commentary on modelling (representation, agencies, experiences, behind the scenes coverage), shake-ups (the "musical chair game" of top designers going from one brand to another), trends and their influences, fast fashion (dupes, exploitation, morality), as well as an "ask the industry" feature with top figures, editorials, and a fashion week summary.

Formats accepted: op-eds, illustrations, essays, comics -- do NOT submit already finished pieces or editorials. Pitches for all types of pieces and event coverage are required. Editorials are currently shot in New York but we accept international pitches/designer lookbooks.

CULTURE-

The culture section focuses on cultural phenomena and issues internationally that affect teens and the world around them; this can include commentary on topics such as social justice and discrimination awareness, identity, pop culture and media, the literary and musical arts, and narrative journalism.

Formats accepted: essays, poetry, op-eds, journalistic articles— do not pitch complete pieces, all submissions must be pitched to the editor before completely written.

Remember, we’re your friends, but so is spellcheck. You might want to avoid those “omgs” for now (but a gif or two never hurt anyone, did it?)

Mark your subject in your email to us with the word “pitch” somewhere and send away.

Refresh. Refresh again. Continue this process until you get a response - we’re a small team, but we’re pretty obsessed, so we should shoot back a response in the next 72 hours. Be ready for some friendly tweaking (after all, we are editors).

Approval or modification. Editor responds and lets you know next steps. If they greenlight your pitch, don't forget to communicate, and get everything in by the deadline. Done!

ON THE OTHER HAND… Want to write for Teen Eye but a little unsure of what direction to head in? Our editors usually have some ideas of their own and are willing to share. Don’t be afraid to ask.

HERE'S HOW TO Get your dream story published in THREE steps:

#1

Hey stranger! We’d like to know a little bit about you. Let us know your age, pronouns, name, location - and anything else to help us feel like your friend.

You must be nineteen or under to submit a pitch.

#2

Now the idea - what are you passionate about? Web pieces do not need to adhere to the issues theme. There is no pitch deadline as we publish on the site weekly!

Teen Eye's site features additional art, fashion, and culture coverage. Any medium that can be uploaded online is fair game for pitches!

If you want to submit art (music, paintings, photography, mixed-media, or films) or event coverage requests, please include a blurb explaining the attached pieces.

Do not submit completed photo editorials or writings! You must pitch beforehand.

For reference, we generally publish three different types of articles:

Mini pieces: ~200-400 words -- short reviews, cultural updates, poetry

Current events pieces: ~400-600 words-- analyses of ANY TYPE OF WORLD news

longform pieces: ~600-1000 words -- short stories, in-depth essays
